Miuras Lures was born out of a dazzling passion handed down from father to son, fishing together in the waters of the Italian Apennine Mountains. A passion cultivated throughout the years with patience and sacrifice along with a wider number of outdoor activities with a common cornerstone: the pleasure of experiencing Nature in all its aspects and seasons.
Since 2008, Miuras Lures has produced more than 6000+ of high-quality, non-replicable lures distributed and shipped to customers worldwide. Each lure is unique and made by hand from sketching phase to production. Their secret? Unmatched attention to details that can only be provided when a single person is overseeing the whole process, without machines nor automation. Miuras Lures is Maurizio Carini, the hands and mind behind every single Miuras product.
The story begins in 2007, when, at the age of 24, Maurizio had the golden opportunity to finally experience fishing in a professional context, working as tour operator of pike fishing trips abroad. From the heights of the Apennines, he landed in Ireland and immediately realized his apprenticeship would take place in a real fishing paradise.
Ireland was a mesmerizing vision: a landscape punctuated by the bright green of meadows and the shining surfaces of rivers and lakes, populated by diverse species of land animals and fish. In the accommodation, Maurizio lived together with people with the same enthusiasm for fishing, and the room he shared with a colleague was literally covered in bait and fishing tackle: all the space they had, from the floor to the closets, was used to store boxes of lures and other equipment, to the point they could risk accidental hooking by just moving around.
This incredibly inspiring context was ideal to nurture creativity; moreover, the tantalizing reward of catching the large pikes that swam the surrounding waters was more than enough as a motivation. Working with even more precision and caution, Maurizio began testing new baits with the intuition that not everything had yet been discovered. He had already noticed how using soft baits, such as grub and generously sized rubber fish, was a good strategy for success; these, however, due to their specific weight, didn’t allow to linger in the presentation suspended in shallow waters and above submerged vegetation.
The solution to this problem, which was key for a turning point and his life altogether, came unexpectedly in 2008, when Maurizio found a simple wine cork while tidying up the room during a day off. A simple, abandoned cork put his mind in a restless motion that will eventually become the origins of the story of Miuras Lures.
The same day, Maurizio adapted that unsuspectable object into the draft of the perfect bait he always aimed to craft. He improvised a test product by assembling the bait with deer hair, a component which would become fundamental, and immediately put it to work for an inaugural swim in the closest river. It was an immediate success; on the second cast, a pike about a meter in length rose in a vertical sprint from the thick grassy bottom, slashing at the bait. Later the same day, the group of colleagues tested it too; the initial skeptical looks gave way to eyes shining with interest, as everyone passed from hand to hand the very first Miuras prototype and baptized it as a “mouse”.
During the following months, carefully planned testing was carried out in waters of diverse features, with the result of proving the extraordinary ability of the bait to attract pikes where all other baits failed. These long tests were essential to outline the characteristics of the bait, replicated in the first series that was produced for the first time for the public between the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009. The first original pieces were distributed among close friends, lodge guides, and some guests who had requested them specifically. From that moment onwards, production would never stop.
For a year, the Mouse was at the center of attention whether it was spotted actively used in fishing or for sale at the Lodge’s noticeboard: a laughable object at first, then a must-have, given the catches achieved. Towards the end of 2010, at the end of his experience as a fishing guide, Maurizio expanded his workspace and studied to expand the range of products to a series of new models, developed also thanks to the feedback of his former colleagues in Ireland. A conglomerate of ideas and cross opinions coming from multiple brains armored the peculiarities of the bait, gradually correcting the defects of the manufacturing, enhancing the pluses even on the most lethal color combinations.
The mouse became “Miuras” Mouse®, an anagram of the nickname “Mauri”, and his merits spread like wildfire ever further away, not only within the niche of fishermen-travelers in Italy and abroad, but also to other fishing guides, who, without sensationalism, used it, with silent trust, keeping it as confidential as possible.
But the astonishing results of Miuras Mouse did not keep its existence incognito for long; in the years between 2013 and 2014 there was the first boom in requests, forcing Maurizio to divide himself between two jobs, triggering an extraordinary work commitment. Then, finally, a life-changing choice: in 2015, Maurizio begins producing bait as his primary occupation, believing and investing personal savings in the foundation of the company Deftackle®.
whose creator brought to life, giving them soul and character. The sacred time this process requires gives each bait an absolute value in quality of effectiveness, keeping high standards with no compromises to their historical tradition and original recipe.
